What will my child have for homework? π
Per the PCK Handbook:
The following guide is the minimum recommended amount of time students should spend studying each evening (excluding special projects):
Kindergarten β Grade 2: 30 minutes (plus 15 minutes of reading)
Monday - Thursday your child will have paper math homework, due the next day. Please initial homework.
Chapter reviews may be sent home any day. Please check the homework calendar for up-to-date information.Β
Vocabulary sentences are due Friday, weekly unless announced otherwise.
Spelling tests will occur weekly on Fridays. Spelling lists will be posted on Seesaw and written in your child's planner.
Students are expected to read for 15 minutes every night! π
What is Seesaw? π±
Seesaw is an interactive platform that connects parents, teachers, and students. It is very simple and easy to use.
Seesaw is our main form of communication in first grade. We will post events, announcements, reminders, spelling and vocab lists, pictures, and more. We can also message privately on the app.
Please make sure you are signed up ASAP so you don't miss any important announcements!
What can my child bring for snack? π
We encourage students to bring one healthy snack each day. Please no dessert items or candy. If utensils are needed please send them in.
Students should be able to open their snacks independently.
Snack containers/bags should be able to fit in their desk.
Please avoid snacks that squirt or spill (fruit cups, GoGurt, etc.).
Pretzels, popcorn, fruit, trail mix, cheese, and crackers are some excellent options!
No drinks (Gatorade, juice boxes, etc.) please!
What is ABC recess? π€©
ABC recess stands for "Appropriate Behavior Counts."
ABC recess is an extra recess students earn each week. Students can earn this extra recess by turning in all homework and displaying appropriate behavior across all classes and areas. Students that do not earn ABC recess stay inside in one of the 1st-grade classrooms with a teacher.
How do you celebrate birthdays? π
We love celebrating birthdays at school! Snacks/treats are not necessary, but if you do want to send something in please make sure it is NOT homemade or contains nuts.
Summer birthdays will be celebrated on your child's half-birthday.
